The FISU World University Games held in Chengdu, China from 28 July to 8 August 2023, formerly the Universiade, is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). As one of the designated artistic activities, the dance drama "Giant Panda" was staged continuously in Chengdu City Concert Hall. During the games, the play was staged eight times from July 29th to August 5th. Diplomatic envoys from 51 countries, hundreds of sports delegations from all over the world, media workers and thousands of spectators watched this performance which shows Chinese traditional cultural characteristics, a feast of art in the international first-class stage. In the play, the world-renowned panda IP, the refreshing stage style, the emotional expression in the narrative and the beauty of traditional Chinese culture have infected many audiences.
The play "Giant Panda" is a dance drama directed by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, produced by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, and the CPC Chengdu Chenghua District Committee, with the special support of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and created by Chengdu Art Theater Company.
In terms of stage design, the play uses oriental aesthetics as the visual keynote, expressing the unique romance and poetry of China among the mountains and rivers.
