On the evening of March 2, the "Good Plays of Shandong" 2026 Lantern Festival Opera Gala was successfully staged at the Fang Rongxiang Grand Theatre. The event was hosted by the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and organized by the Shandong Liuzixi Opera Art Protection and Inheritance Center.
The gala upheld the philosophy of preserving the essence of traditional opera while embracing innovation. By honoring cultural roots and aligning with contemporary aesthetics, the event showcased the latest achievements in the preservation and development of Shandong's rich opera heritage while enriching the public's cultural celebrations during the Lantern Festival.
Breaking away from conventional formats, the performance was structured as an immersive narrative journey across five themed chapters: "The Charm of Opera," "Voices of Qilu," "New Sounds from the Opera Stage," "The Enduring Art of National Treasures," and "The Legacy of Plum Blossom." Through a carefully designed lighting system, DLW helped shape a layered and expressive visual atmosphere that complemented the refined simplicity of traditional opera staging.
The performance highlighted both the deep cultural heritage and contemporary vitality of Shandong opera, allowing traditional art to resonate with modern audiences in a fresh and engaging way. The gala featured innovative interpretations from renowned Chinese opera traditions, including Peking Opera, Lü Opera, Liuzixi Opera, and Shandong Bangzi Opera.
Distinguished performers such as Xiong Mingxia, Jin Xiquan, An Ping, and Zhang Jianfeng delivered captivating performances, presenting classic repertoire from their respective schools. The gala concluded with a powerful martial arts finale led by Yin Chunyu, bringing the evening to an exciting and memorable close.
