Common Problem of Gas Discharge Lamps

Dec 05, 2022

Hello everyone, welcome to Dream Lighting, the professional manufacturer and supplier of Moving Head.

Today I would like to introduce you to the use of gas discharge lamps, but also some of common problems.

When we use the gas discharge lamps, there are often some of the following problems.

First, the Bulb sphere blows up

Second, the Bulb sphere is white

Third, the front and back end of bulb is cracked

Here let me analyze the reasons for you.

The first situation: the ball blows up

There are two reasons for sphere cracking.

1. The input voltage and current mismatch

2. The quality of the bulb itself is not good.

The second situation: the sphere became white

Bulb sphere whitening because the electrode of every start are volatile attached to the surface of the sphere. Generally, electrode attached to the surface of the sphere for the following reasons.

1) The normal aging.

2) The bulb sphere temperature is not appropriate, high or low.

The normal working temperature of the bulb sphere is 900 °, the upper and lower electrode working temperature is about 350 °. When the bulb in the moment of starting, the temperature is not up to the normal requirements. So we need to stay enough warm-up time when the bulb starts.

In general, 15 minutes after the lamp starts, it can reach a stable state. So we usually light up the bulb, must wait 15 minutes until turning off.

If the temperature is not reached, turning off the bulb will cause the volatile electrodes to adhere to the surface of the bulb and make the bulb black.

If this happens, we don't have to worry too much.

Just light it up again and give it enough warm-up time so that it will slowly return to normal.

In short, during the normal use of the bulb, it is not recommended to turn off and on the light frequently!

Because each time the resulting electrode has been attached to the surface of the sphere, will lead to early aging of the bulb.

The third situation: the front end and the back end of bulb is cracked.

The front end and back end of bulb is composed of a variety of substances, there are metal conductive material, wood and electrodes welded together.

The wood piece is very, very thin, so need a very demanding of welding technology.

The cracking is a common if not welded well.

Another reason for the cracking is that the temperature is too large difference between the upper and lower ends of the sphere during preheating.

Because these materials are combined together, their respective coefficients of expansion are not the same, which can cause the front end and back end cracked.

That's all the share about the bulb.

See you next time.
