"Sixty-year-old County Magistrate Feng Menglong"
On the evening of August 25th, the Peking Opera "Sixty-year-old County Magistrate Feng Menglong" premiered at Jiangsu Zijin Grand Theater under the guidance of the Publicity Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, produced by Jiangsu Performing Arts Group, and created and performed by the Jiangsu Performing Arts Group Peking Opera Theater. It received unanimous praise from the audience and the applause lasted for a long time! The play was selected as a major theme literary and artistic creation project in Jiangsu Province in 2023.
Plot Synopsis
The new historical Peking Opera "Feng Menglong, Magistrate of County in Sixties" is based on the background of Feng Menglong, one of the celebrities of canal culture and a great literary master of his era, who went to Shouning in Fujian Province to serve as a county magistrate in his sixtieth year. Through stage art performance, it reproduces the precarious late Ming Dynasty. Feng Menglong carried the regrets of decades of imperial examinations, put what he had thought and learned throughout his life in writing books, and also carried the principles of governing the world by cultivating conscience and establishing emotional education. He reformed the land system, eliminated bad habits, saved the people, managed the land and water, and dedicated himself to ink, weeping blood to write a book, the words and deeds are unified, and all of what he have done becomes the story of a true love officer inside and outside the book.
