On October 15th, the original Tianjin century-old legendary drama "Taiping Wharf" produced by Tianjin Music Academy had its successful premiere at Wuqing Theater. The play is a 2023 National Arts Fund (for large-scale stage art creation) sponsored project.
SYNOPSIS
Plot Summary
The play uses the "Tianjin Wharf " in modern times as the historical and cultural background, and focuses on the Chinese people's arduous, evocative and inspiring historical story of overthrowing the old society and the old system and defeating the Japanese invaders for artistic creation.
In early 1911, in order to comply with the imperial court's new policy of "establishing private industry", Jin Sanye spent all his wealth to buy the steamship "Stevenson" from the British and renamed it "Taiping". The small wharf thus became famous, named "Taiping wharf ".
In the Mid-Autumn Festival of 1939, nearly two years after the fall of Tianjin, the Japanese army came to the dock to requisition the "Taiping". Tong Wu tried his best to stop it but failed. Before his death, he lamented that the "Taiping" was robbed in his own hands. He felt very guilty to Mr. Jin, but only hoped that Jin Hai would live peacefully.
In the winter of 1948, Tianjin was about to be liberated. The Kuomintang officers and soldiers wanted to sink the “Taiping” and burn down the dock. The impoverished Jin Haiqing tried his best to stop them. During the dispute, he was shot to death. When everyone was shocked, the rumble gunfire of the People's Liberation Army attacking the city was heard outside of the city.
The play uses a delicate technique to show that the Chinese people still maintain the excellent qualities of responsibility, loyalty, kindness, optimism, and enterprising spirit in times of crisis. The vivid and compact plot and uniquely designed stage light in the play left a deep impression to the audience.
