On May 7th, 《Backbone》-a groundbreaking contemporary acrobatic drama produced by Guizhou Culture & Performance Industry Group and created by Guizhou Acrobatic Troupe, under the guidance of Guizhou Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department, China Acrobats Association, and Guizhou Department of Culture and Tourism-premiered to critical acclaim at Guizhou International Conference Center Theatre. The play was selected for Guizhou's 2024 Elite Art Support Program and the "Colorful Guizhou" Cultural Tourism Exchange Tour, which redefines stage artistry through its fusion acrobatics and cutting-edge lighting technology.
About the play
Inspired by Guizhou's monumental infrastructure achievements, 《Backbone》 chronicles the grit of roadbuilders through seven chapters-including "Dreaming Beyond Lazi Cliff," "Conquering the Roadblock," and "Encountering the Fault Mountain." The production leverages over 20 acrobatic techniques (diabolos, human pyramids, aerial straps, etc.), enhanced by 3D projection mapping and dynamic lighting to simulate treacherous environments like wind-swept gorges and collapsing ridges.
